Alanya, in the south of Turkey, is one of the most beautiful cities on the Riviera on the so-called “blue coloured coast”. It lies in front of the mountains with red earth, surrounded by two large sandy beaches and beach promenades with hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants. History tells, that Queen Cleopatra also liked to walk on the sand and to swim in the blue ocean. Therefore the Roman Antonius gave her Alanya as a present. Alanya is an ideal location for holidays: comfortable, elegant, with a lot of green areas. In winter we have a mild Mediterranean climate.

Alanya is one of the important centres of Turkey for fruit and vegetable culture. The land is good for growing lemons, oranges and bananas and woods of Aleppotrees (20m high) and Libanon trees.

You can find special titbits in Alanya. You should try “grilled mutton dumpling” with vegetables and on coal grilled fresh fish.

Why Alanya?

Alanya is not only in the summer perfect, there is little to separate it from its winter. With the European citizen who flee’s from the cold wet Europe, and gladly spends there winter under the sun over here. Climatically the winter is mild and is free from frost.  Mild temperatures between 15 and 18 degrees you will find here between December and April.

Anywhere else in Turkey you will not find the Taurus Mountains as near as here in Alanya.

In Alanya the real estate prices are affordable in comparison to other European countries.  Meanwhile more than 13000 Europeans live in Alanya, so English is very common here as is the German language. Meanwhile the city offers a large selection of different newspapers, Magazines and other publications among them for example the German-language newspaper, Prima Turkey or for the Dutch guests Hello also ‘Orange’ which is in both German and English.

The red tower is one of the attractive architectonical sights of Alanya. It is a mighty, eight cornered, 33 meter high tower, which looks down on a nice garden.

The order to build the red tower came from Alaadin Keykubat, the seldschukish sultan anno 1226. Its name “Kizil” (red) came about because of the red stones it is made of. “Kizil Kule” is 33m high and goes over 5 floors. Inside you find the äthnografic division of art museum Alanya. Especially the costumes of the osmanic period, hand-made weave chairs and textile works can be seen.

The antique boatyard, which was built in the period of sultan Keykubat, has 5 docks, is 7m wide and 43 m deep. It was built 2 years later than the “red tower”.

The half-island, on which the castle stands, was because of the difficult accessible situation from sea and land side. At last the selschucian people build a monumental castle, which is retained very well up to today.

The castle of Alanya is the most beautiful and solidest of anatolic castles. On the castle walls, which are 6500 m long, are 140 bastions. The towers and bastions, which are totally made of stone and mortar, have fire notches, pitch noses and dam rounds to make the defence of the soldiers easier.

The cave is found in the west of the half-island. The Damlatas beach was named after this cave. Inside with stalactites and stalagmites in several colours, the cave has a permanent temperature of 22-23 degree. It has been proven that the cave helps with asthma of allergic type and rheumatism. The cave has a constant liquid of 90-100 %. The air is filled with a high grade of carbon.

With a boat you can take a wonderful tour of the grottos. The fishermen like to take you for a small charge to the romantic Grotto of love or to the impressive phosphor cave, which has a sparkling blue ground.

The Dim river is in the east of Alanya, 6km from the centre. It rises from the Taurus mountain side and flows to the Mediterranean sea after 60km. The water of the river is not only cool in winter, during the summer you can find coolness from the river. Along the river side you find a lot of restaurants, where you can sit with your feet in the water whilst eating.

If you like to eat a grilled fish, meat or chicken this experience is the best in Alanya.

5 km from centre on the left side you find the Ulas park and the nice Ulas beach, one of the best places of the region.

For people who like to enjoy a picnic their are tables, fire places and toilets are situated in the park.
