We are aware that you have a lot of questions to ask, and that everyone will tell you something different. People are saying that no European can buy anything anymore in Turkey. In the newspapers and on television their is a lot of negative reports and nobody knows exactly what the facts are.
Because of this situation we would like to help you understand and translate a report from Mr. Huseyin Erkek published in the Sept/Oct.journal of the Chamber of Commerce "ALTSO". Mr. Erkek is the 2nd chairman of the Chamber of Commerce:

As you know on the 15th March 2005 some agreements were made. These agreements have to be ratified after 3 months. Because of the long summer holidays of the Parliament in Ankara this hasn´t been done untill today. Because of this confusing situation all works in the Register Offices has been suspended. It is not true, that the Parliament will decide that no estates would be sold to foreigners any more. The new law, which will come out at the end of October, will just adjust the sales for plots of land. A lot of these plots have been sold already in the east of Turkey. Most of the ground has been bought by immigrants from Syria, Greece, Romania, Iran, Spain and Lebanon. Because of this reason the Goverment has decided to introduce this new law.

87% foreigners have bought apartments in Antalya, Mugla, Aydin, Istanbul, Izmir, Hatay, Mersin, Bursa or Camkirik. 6.900 of them in Alanya have been bought by German, Dutch, English, Irish, Norwegian and Danish.

As you can see, it does not concern owner-occupied property, but only plots of land.



The new law will say that foreigners cannot buy properties in areas without any building plan permission. The plot cannot be bigger than 10.000sqm, it cannot be located :

1. Outside the city boarders

2. Near a military facility

3. Near any culture assets

4. That it is not near important a valuable asset for the country of Turkey

Just after the arrangement with the Department of the Interior in Turkey there maybe plots which were sold over these measurments. European Firms who have offices in Turkey will be allowed to buy plots about 50.000 sqm. They can also rent plots for 49 Years."

There is no reason for doubts or fear, that there will be a total stop on selling property to foreigners. Furthermore there are houses, apartments and villas being sold in the meantime. Also obligations have been made.
